Glossary

A Domain Name is the address that leads to your site such as www.yourdomain.co.nz It will cost $45 per year. We hold the domain name for free and can set up email addresses with it also for free.

Free Email Addresses
When you purchase a domain you can either have a pop account (which is like a whole seperate account with username and password or I can redirect all emails.
Redirection is when an email using your domain such as This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it goes to an address that you already have like This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   so someone emailing you would only see the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it but you still get it when you check your emails. This is usually used when your hosting provider has already given you an email address for free and there isn't much point resetting things up. Having a pop account can allow you to receive larger emails depending on what limits your current provider has.
A Pop Account is where you have a separate username and password and you configure your email program so that when you click 'send and receive' it checks your pop account. It is easy to set up.
That's all free. Advantages of using your domain name for your emails are:
1. If you change your ISP (internet provider like xtra or paradise) you don't have to change your email address on stationary or let any of your clients know. Just let me know and I make a small change.
2. It looks more professional having an email address like This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it than This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
3. If you are placing advertisments in a few different places you can use different email addresses on each ad to monitor where email replies are coming from.

CMS or Content Management System
This is a system that usually uses a database and gives you the ability to make changes to your website for free. No more having to rely on a web designer to change a couple of words for you, thus giving you the control and saving you money. The system we use has a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editor. This is much the same as Microsoft Word to use.

Web Page
This is an actual page of information. Generally try to keep these concise to avoid scrolling down the page which causes people to lose interest. Keep your images down to one or two to prevent long download times.

Hosting
This is the space that holds your website and makes it accessable to the public. We charge $25 per month, charged yearly and have no restriction on space (how many files or images you add) or traffic (how many people look at your site, thus using bandwidth on the server) so you can load as many pics into your gallery as you like. Some hosting servers are cheaper, but can charge you extra for holding a domain name, charge you more if you use over a certain amount of space on the web server, charge you more if too many people look at you site, charge extra to have a database etc.
Say if you have a picture on your site that is 100kb and 1000 people look at it, it downloads on to their machine each time so it would amount to 100mb being downloaded from the web server. Some web hosting services charge you if you go over a certain limit. They also have varying degrees of service, speed, and reliability. Some are hosted overseas which slows down local viewing. The web server providers I use are guaranteed being online 99% of the time, and their service if there is a problem of something extra needs setting up is excellent. They are based in Albany on the main internet trunk line.

Transferring Your Domain Name and Emails to us
To take over the holding of your domain name we require a UDAI code which if you don't have when you registered your domain name you should be able to get from the people who currently host your site. We also need to know how your emails are set up. ie wheher you have pop accounts or redirected emails (see above)  If they are redirected emails please let us know what email addresses you require and where you want them to go, ie This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it goes to  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it If you need pop accounts let us know how many and what email addresses you want. Did I mention that's free?
